But I’m not going to push it

The worst mistake I’ve made in my life is push.

Ok… maybe that isn’t my worst of the worst mistake, but in a subtle way — it is.

Pushing to make a post.

Pushing to like every comment.

Pushing to keep up with every creator.

In this Information Age that is the quickest way to burnout.

Thankfully though, I’ve come up with a strategy that I’ve tested and has helped me out immensely!

Is everyone on summer vacation?

This is what I’ve been hearing a lot for why it’s slow, specifically on Medium.

I guess this period is differentiating those who write because they love it and those only working for that July 8th paycheck.

Now, that’s not to say that everyone is in those two brackets, but if you treat it as a job, then you probably want to take the same breaks as your ol’ 9–5 too.

Though I have to admit, seeing less growth is making me feel like posting less myself.

Making adjustments

For me personally, instead of writing in the mornings, I’ve found time in the summertime for both evening and morning writing. Yet, it’s still sporadic depending on something that comes up.

Actually I’ve been catching up on archery, so I’ve been doing that every other day both morning and evening.

So where does that leave Medium?

If there isn’t going to be a lot of growth anyway, then I might as well wait it out a bit instead of working myself numb for a goal (writing everyday, 2x a day) that is going to be hard to make happen.

Now yes, I’m here for both the love and money (not love of money), so goals go both ways.

My plan is to post when I can during either morning or evening.

Then in Autumn I can go back to everyday and see if 2x a day posting suits my schedule.

Medium has been the best side-hustle I can do without spending too much time and still both enjoying writing and making an income. I just have to balance writing so it doesn’t become a burnout hustle.

What’s your plan for posting until Autumn (or whatever your time zone is)?
