This advice for solopreneurs is overrated

If you’re a newly-turned solopreneur, you’ve probably heard of the hustle mentality more than once.
- Do everything you can in every available time slot possible.
- Do outreach, networking, creating posts, starting a newsletter, and huff huff everything as soon as possible & you’ll leave your 9–5.
Even if many experienced solopreneurs on X and even Medium have succeeded in this hustle, it isn’t for everyone.
Let me share with you why this advice doesn’t help for the majority of us & what you can do better. Hopefully you’ll see why I’m not bending backwards for this overrated advice.
Give yourself space for mindfulness
As humans, we’re meant to breathe.
When our day is chockful from 8AM — 8PM with every once of productivity possible — it’s the fastest way to burn out.
Instead, plan in advance how you can orient your routine for mindfulness.

Being in the moment of your thoughts, taking time to think things through, and most importantly — not overwhelming yourself.
The hustle mentality of already-established solopreneurs may not give credence to this, but it’s the most important when & if you decide to solopreneur!
Finding clarity
The juggle of everything between your job & your side-hustle, you might not notice when things change & how to plan for them.
Like staying on-top of:
- News of what’s happening in your area.
- What your family members are doing.
- Your company’s financial situation.
By giving yourself room from “hustling” 24/7, you might become better thoughtful to these (examples) & more!
Adapting
How do you know that this side-gig will be beneficial for you?
When hustling without an once of time to think outside the box, we become numb to what we might be going through when trying to fulfill every part of our side business.
That’s not to say that you are, but it’s an easy thing to happen!
- We get caught up in work & don’t have time to think.
- We’re engaging only in our niche without looking at similar niche’s.
- Staying with a software that ends up hurting rather than helping, but we’re having to rely on it.
By having self-awareness, we’ll be able to reflexively adapt our strategy to suit our, or even our audience’s, current need — keeping us better in control!
Takeaway
Keeping mindful, finding clarity, and adapting will help you continue to see the bigger picture & keep striving to do better in your solopreneur biz.
To keep ourselves from getting sucked into the mindset that every once of our time has to be filled by working, we can find other ways that are more sustainable to keep thriving in our side-business while keeping a 9–5.
I hope these strategies help you!
