How to understand all the sides that make you, you.

You need space.

If you feel that you can’t…

-Ā Think about your future.

  • Put priorities first.
  • Have a clear mind about your goals.

Then you need a littleĀ ā€œme time.ā€

Well then, how does having space help me with this?

Glad you asked! It’s becauseĀ youĀ need time to process your day.

Like a business meeting which takes several times of discussing to get multiple perspectives on an issue — you need time to understand your perspective over a long period of time ,Ā to know if what you’re doing is working for you.

You see, the thing is that you haveĀ several perspectivesĀ over a range of time that need space to come together and discuss in order to help you understand what you truly need.

That’s why people journal, or keep a diary, to understand how their mind changes over time and to see if they have aĀ ā€œblind spotā€Ā about a situation they’re in.

Now, I’m not going to give you rules on how to do this. Different ways are going to work for you after all, but I’m going to give youĀ practicesĀ as a guideline to help.

Ways of Getting the Bigger Picture

This is ultimately what having space helps you to see, isn’t it?

Here are some practices of doing this.

Taking a walk

How relaxing is it, after grinding at work, to take a walk in your local park?

Not only does walking get your blood flowing, but it helps you think better, right?

Use this to your advantage by:

-Ā Planning in when to take a walk.

  • Focusing on being aware of your surroundings when walking.
  • Doing it anywhere between 5–30 minutes.

And start envisioning your goals for your long-term self.

Writing a journal

You may have heard this before, butĀ writing things down helps.

Though, you don’t just need to simply write it down.

You can try:

  • Freewriting
  • Morning Pages
  • Art Journal
  • Dream journal

And the ā€œlistsā€ goes on,Ā this articleĀ provides great examples!

Keeping a habit tracker

Why keep your habits? So that you can understand how they all add up in the long-term!

Instead of looking over pages & pages in your handwritten journal, just look over a digital or physical Habit Tracker all nicely laid out, and find patterns in your habits.

This way, you can better understand yourself to guide future decisions!

Accounting how you feel

Ultimately, the point of understanding your perspective is to know how you feel about different avenues of your life.

What better way to keep track than in a good ā€˜ol database! However, there are many more ways than justĀ keeping track with ExcelĀ (though that is one way).

As a part-time Notion creator, I’ve designed this workflow in Notion that helps me keep track of my energy by my tasks & then relating those tasks to journal entries on how I feel.

Sounds complex, huh?

It is easy! Since I’ve added buttons to this template, managing this has become a peace of cake.

I’ll be releasing this template soon called the Energy OS on myĀ newsletter, you can keep an eye onĀ my shopĀ as well!

Having more alone time

Do you find yourself always surrounded by people?

When you’re alone, things become easier to understand & think because you’re looking in — instead of having to cater to people & their needs.

Nonetheless of being an introvert & an extrovert, by applying the above methods when you’re alone, you can better understand how you think & find yourĀ ā€œblind spotā€Ā ā€” areas you may not think need improving, but may be crucial to fix in order to reach your future goals.

Discussing with a friend

How many times has communication saved your back in the past?

Whether that’s when a friend told you that you’re going down the wrong path, when you let someone know that they had gum on their shoe…

Simply talking with a friend can mean all the difference to understanding yourself.

Takeaway

Whichever practice works best for you, remember toĀ give yourself space.
