I think I’ve had it floofy long enough to know

The hair type I have, semi-fine/semi-thick brown hair is quite prone to being limp. Just to sport an example, Lael Hansen has my hair type to a T. While hair stylists say the only way to have full hair is by pouring products upon products onto it, I say nope! I was able to get my hair fuller and floofier with only a few simple habits. While my hair doesn’t look like an afro, it’s a huge difference compared to the limp, split-ended, and tangled hair I used to have.

Seasons

Rather than a habit that I’m starting with, this is an awareness on how I may differ the following habits depending on the season. For instance,

Winter = dry, cold, more split ends Summer = humid, hot sun, more oil

With this in mind, I cut my hair every year between January and March, letting the strands grow out for winter so that if I get any split ends, I can cut them off in spring. Then, by having shorter hair when it gets hot, my hair naturally floofs up rather than being weighed down by the humidity.

Washing

Wash more so that the natural hair oils don’t weigh it down, right? Nope! In fact, the natural oils in your head is what helps the hair be healthier. However, when it comes to winter, often times it’s better to wait up to 2 weeks before washing. That way there’s less frizz and I don’t need to keep coating my long locks with oil.

Brushing

Using a boar brush, I learned this tip from HolisticHabits (who also has my hair type) that the boar bristles bring down oils from the scalp all the way to the tips. While I’ll never have as long of hair as she has (neither would I want all that work, haha!), I’ve stuck with using a boar brush for years and it really does the trick for detangling and hydrating.

Head massage

Never was I the type to do this, but boy does it help. Not only have I noticed the knots evaporating from my head, but my hair gets really floofy. In addition, it’s necessary to promote blood circulation to the scalp, helping hair growth also.

Takeaway

… and that’s all, I’m serious. Perhaps to help my hair get moisture I’ll spritz some lavender spray (drop of lavender essential oil & 99% water), otherwise keeping it simple is how I haven’t had messy knots, limp hair, and a lack of confidence in over 5 yrs.

Also not to brag… but I’m pretty happy because I sewed the shirt I’m wearing :D as a kid I hated sewing, but I couldn’t find a top in the style I wanted- so I bought material, a small sewing machine, and sewed it all on my own without instruction. Except for looking at the seam on a shirt.
